Portland Engagement photos on the Columbia River Gorge

Meet the couple of these Portland engagement photos!

These two engaged lovers are from Virginia and went to same university as I, and yet we never met until here in Portland, Oregon where they now live hence why they did their engagement photos in Portland Oregon! How fun right?! These two are southerners are heart, but now find themselves adapting to life on the West coast and loving it. Even if this means Madie no longer gets her beloved southern grits in the morning! No one does grits like southerners. Madie misses her grits more than anything. Austin was nervous going into the shoot, and we learned that up until this day he had NEVER rolled his pants up, and he felt very ‘hipster’ and Portland, Madie LOVED the look and most likely will start styling him like this from now on HAHA. But a few short minutes into the shoot and Austin was running around loving it, throwing Madie over his shoulders and enjoying himself to where you could not even tell he once was nervous about any of it! We traveled out to the Columbia river gorge and loved the grey skies and clouds, but some magic happened when the sun peeked out for about 20 minutes as we were at the top of our miniature climb to Government Cove.

Best Portland Engagement photo locations:

Oregon has SO many amazing locations to do your engagement photos! Ranging from mountain and water views on the Columbia river gorge, to epic down pouring waterfalls, to the desert and sand dunes, to the beaches along the coast, and the parks in the middle of Oregon, you cannot go wrong with any of these!! so let’s chat about these different location options for you and your partner for your engagement photos!!

  • Cannon Beach

  • Sand Dunes

  • Cape Kiwanda

  • Smith Rock State Park

  • Columbia River Gorge

  • A waterfall

  • Cliffside on the Coast

Each of these locations has so much to offer so lets dive a little into each location and try to help narrow down which one may be best for you!!

    Cannon Beach Engagement Photos

Cannon Beach is a MUST see when visiting Oregon. It has a rocky beach like no other, but let me tell you the people love this beach!! Parking is sparse and it does require quite a bit of walking to get to and from the beach, and if you are wanting photos right by the famous big rocks, those are quite farther away than they look when walking on the sandy beach! But Cannon Beach truly does have one of the most UNREAL sunsets you will ever see, the way they light hits the water and sand is the most beautiful reflection ever. You seriously CANNOT go wrong with Cannon Beach as long as you are okay getting a little sandy and dirty and walking a bit!

    Sand Dunes Engagement Photos

Sand dunes… where to begin? When you are in Sand Dunes it feels like you are on another planet, there is nothing like them! They are fun to drive on, but be safe!! And they are fun to roll down, one thing about sand dunes is that they get SOOOOO FREAKING HOTTT in the summer!! So if you are doing summer engagement photos I would NOT recommend sand dunes! I would recommend these for spring or fall sessions so that you are not burning the SHIT out of your poor little feet! I highly recommend Sand dunes for your engagement photos if you are super down to get dirty, super down to roll down hills and run around, and if you LOVE movement, these are perfect for you!!!

Cape Kiwanda Engagement Photos

Cape Kiwanda has some of the most EPIC water cliffside views you can find in Oregon in my opinion! If you are in love with adventure, and those flowy dress cliffside photos always catch your eye then this is the spot for you!! It is also SUPER OPEN and spaced out so you have more privacy and the ability to go where you want, without worrying about other people photobombing your shoot!

Smith Rock State Park

Smith Rock is one of Central Oregon’s hidden treasures in my opinion!! Those who love climbing and hiking this park is FOR YOU!! There are so many trails and options to explore, climbing lines and more so your adventurous soul can shine through during your engagement session! This park is a little further out so if you are traveling from Portland, make sure to pack some snacks and water and plan for your whole day being spent in the park and finding the perfect spots for you!

Columbia river gorge photos

The Columbia river gorge is one of the most Beautiful drives you can take yourself on. Even if it is not for your engagement session, You NEED to go drive the gorge and just stare at all the beauty!! There are SO MANY different waterfalls, pull offs and more that you can literally stop and do photos at! this is such a good place for all you care-free folks who don’t love having a set plan and who love just driving and stopping along the way!!
